MAJOR FUNCTION:
Position Summary
The Radiation Oncology Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients undergoing radiation therapy for cancer. Working collaboratively with radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, nurses, dosimetrists, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary oncology team, the NP evaluates, treats, educates, and follows patients throughout the continuum of care.
Position Responsibilities
Includes but is not limited to:
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations
- Evaluate patients before, during, and after radiation therapy
- Manage acute and chronic toxicities associated with radiation therapy
- Assess treatment response and monitor disease progression, including ordering diagnostic testing
- Provide patient and family education and referrals as needed
- Evaluate urgent oncology-related concerns, including treatment complications
- Provide survivorship care and long-term follow-up
- Perform consultations with the radiation oncologist for inpatients
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, tumor boards, clinical protocols, and evidence-based practice projects
- Document patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic medical record (EMR)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and completed masters or postgraduate certificate Nurse Practitioners’ program.
- High quality of nursing competence and advanced leadership skills.
Certification/Licensure:
- Current registration with NJ State Board of Nursing.
- Certified by nationally recognized nurse practitioner organization.
- BLS Certification required.
- ACLS preferred.
