Position Summary: The Aura Memory Care Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Memory Care with meeting Inspīr Senior Living standard and practices along with state and federal regulations as it relates to memory care and programming. The Memory Care Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of all programs and ensuring that it is therapeutic to the residents and maximizes their quality of life.
Minimum Qualifications
- An associate degree from an accredited college or university; or satisfactory completion of two years of college, with major work in in social work, nursing, psychology, gerontology, therapeutic recreation or related field
- Applicants with two years of full-time experience in the recreation field with an adult population may be considered
- Must be a Certified Dementia Practitioner CDP® or willing to complete the necessary steps to become certified
- Must possess a passion for working with seniors and improving their quality of life
- A basic understanding of Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases is essential
- Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
- Basic typing skills and computer knowledge; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and creative software
Typical Work Duties & Functions
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, be involved in the interviewing of any associate who will be assigned to any of the specialized memory care programs, including RSAs, housekeeping, and activity positions
- Provide outstanding customer service to all residents, family members, responsible persons, and visitors of residents in the community
- Assist with ensuring memory care program meets all state, federal and other regulations
- Demonstrate requisite knowledge, skills and abilities consistent with the duties and responsibilities of this position
- Personable, reliable, a great communicator and a team player
- Able to relate professionally and positively to residents, physicians, government regulators, incoming visitors and associates at all levels
- Provide ongoing communication to the Executive Director of Memory Care, Executive Director of Clinical Operations and Executive Director regarding staffing issues or concerns
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Memory Care
- Attend monthly associate meetings
- Attend bi-monthly regional Memory Care Coordinator meetings
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, participate in weekly tracking meetings to assure that daily information and observations by the Memory Care team is utilized
- Assist with ensuring, residents are all groomed and dressed properly and according to personal preferences (i.e., jewelry, clothing style, etc.)
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, will provide Habilitation Therapy Training to orientation classes
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, will provide the Heart Philosophy Training, Basics of Dementia and Wandering and Elopement overview during new hire orientation
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, is responsible for providing monthly dementia in-services to all associates that relates to dementia. Curriculum will be provided by Maplewood Senior Living
- Ensures monthly program calendars are designed and implemented based on residents’ abilities, interests, hobbies, religions and work/volunteer experience
- Plans, implements, and conducts/monitors recreational programs to meet the needs of all residents in our memory care population
- Select, schedule and lead activities appropriate for all levels of memory-impaired residents
- Assist with the coordination and transportation of residents for outings and events outside of the community, which may include driving a community motor vehicle
- Successfully work within budgetary guidelines regarding entertainment, supplies and labor hours
- Assist with planning and assisting with special events at the community as needed
- Assist with the completion of Staying Connected Forms and Personal History Forms for all residents in our memory care program
- Assist with the coordination of WISH Program and parallel activities with the Experience Department
- Ensure and maintain appropriate program supplies for recreation programs
- Assist with the purchasing of adaptive program supplies as needed to meet the needs of the residents
- Assist with keeping current a list of local entertainers who will provide entertainment for the memory care residents
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, assist with providing tours and information about our memory care program to families of perspective residents
- Actively involved in a minimum of one (1) committee or activity for the Alzheimer’s Association
- Develop and distribute a monthly newsletter
- Assist with providing supervision in the dining room and offering necessary assistance professional manner
- Assist the Executive Director of Memory Care to ensure tables are set with all necessary utensils (including knives) and ensure that all tablecloths, cloth napkins, and centerpieces are in place
- Assist Executive Director of Memory Care to ensure adaptive devices that have been recommended by Occupational and Speech Therapists are utilized
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care ensure menus are posted and available to residents for lunch and dinner
- Assist Executive Director of Memory Care to ensure example plates are used to assist residents in making menu choices prior to ordering
- Assist the Executive Director of Memory Care to ensure staff utilize diet book as a reference when serving meals
- Assist the Executive Director of Memory Care to ensure all associates are wearing the DOH recommended grey barrio jackets during meals
- Understands and implements all safety and emergency practices and procedures
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, conducts daily environmental rounds in all apartment and common areas to ensure they are safe, and any items that could be potentially harmful are stored properly
- Assist the Executive Director of Memory Care to ensure all mag locks and safety devices are working to prevent elopement
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, ensure all memory care associates have and are using the walkie-talkie system
- Provide the Executive Director of Memory Care with information about resident behaviors to assist in behavioral brainstorming meetings
- Utilize behavior logs for residents who have a history of aggression or agitation
- In the absence of the Executive Director of Memory Care, ensure associates are utilizing the behaviors logs to report new behavioral occurrences
- Possess a sincere passion for working with our senior population
