Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field. Minimum two years working with youth, or related experience and/or training, including one year supervisory experience. Valid driver’s license, must obtain a CDL within 60 days of employment.

Job Summary: Responsible for the supervision of staff and students to ensure safe and secure operation of activities in the recreation area.
Duties
- Develop and implement programs to promote productive and socially acceptable use of leisure time.
- Ensures programs holistically build students’ employability skills through the integration of career technical training and leisure time activities.
- Assist students in understanding and developing lifelong leisure time skills and habits.
- Implement programs that build students’ self-esteem by developing teamwork, good sports conduct, and other positive social behaviors.
- Promote partnerships that enhance the Job Corps experience for students by providing them with opportunities to participate in enjoyable and safe recreation.
- Promote lifelong health through physical activity and exercise.
- Develop and maintain a calendar of recreational activities and events, and distribute the schedule to students in advance of the activities listed.
- Involve students in selecting and planning recreational activities.
- Conduct periodic surveys of student recreational interests and participation, and use the information gathered in planning recreational activities.
- Coordinate with career technical, academic, counseling staff, and social development staff to ensure integration of student training with leisure time activities.
- Consider cost efficiency in planning recreational off-center activities.
- Provides direct supervision, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned recreation staff.
- Provide a wide variety of activities open to all students. Activities should reinforce and provide time to practice communication skills, to demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviors, and to work and participate in groups.
- Provide opportunities for staff and students to participate in service activities.
- Provide adequate staff supervision of events, activities, facilities, and equipment to assure participant safety. Posts staff schedules as required.
- Plans and coordinates the development of the instructional programs to teach students new skills and to improve existing skills through a viable leisure time learning program.
- Conducts and documents water safety training. Prohibits students from participating in swimming or other water-related activities until the students have received water safety instruction and demonstrated swimming proficiency.
- Ensure that all water-related activities are supervised by certified lifeguards. Require the use of the buddy system in all swimming activities, and the use of personal flotation devices in all boating activities.
- Ensures the showing videos of commercial motion pictures to students on center shall be licensed to do so under an umbrella license through a national agreement between the Office of Job Corps and the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation.
- Seek gainful leisure time employment opportunities for students so long as the employment does not interfere with training activities.
- Approves requisitions for recreational equipment, supplies and materials, ensuring the department operates within its established budget.
- Oversees the maintenance of recreational equipment, both indoor and outdoor.
- Works cooperatively with entire Center staff in the solution of students’ problems.
- Creates an environment wherein students and staff feel safe and secure.
- Submits required reports to the appropriate department head.
- Ensures the safety, health, and security of students, staff, and property.
- Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
- Models, mentors, and monitors career success standards.
- Helps students become more employable through continuous reinforcement.
- Evaluates personnel under his/her management and makes recommendations regarding disciplinary actions, promotions and/or merit increases.
- Assists the Center Director in meeting the goals and objectives of the Center.
- Participates in PRH mandated staff training. Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
- Complies with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.
- Teaches weekly leadership courses as designed and scheduled through CDSS and CSS and use the PCDP as prescribed in policies and procedures. Ensures that student leaders are actively involved in the operation of the Center.
- Issues certificates to all students upon completion of leadership program.
- As assigned, ensures the proper functioning of the dorm and peer courts to include training of board members, supervision of elections, function of hearings, and ensure that students and staff, in peer review hearings, are following proper guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the individual’s scope and capabilities.
