Duties and Responsibilities 65% of Time Spent
1. Under the direction of the registered professional nurse. Manages the environment and crisis de-escalation incorporating the attributes of Careful Nursing.
- Identifies potential safety hazards
- Conducts searches and contraband removal.
- Initiates individual patient interactions (e.g., one-to ones).
- Coordinate's goal setting with patients and significant others (e.g., families).
- Participates in multidisciplinary patient staffing (care conference) on a weekly basis.
- Applies restraints under the direction of a licensed professional
- Transports patients within the hospital as needed.
- Floats to all units as needed to provide observations for all behavioral health patients. Assure the safety of the patient and the environment
- Provides 1:1 support for high acuity patients
2. Provides direct patient care as required. 25% of Time Spent
3. Facilitates therapeutic groups. 5% of Time Spent
4. Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures that care is provided for all patients incorporating the attributes of Careful Nursing. 5% of Time

- Participatory – authoritative management
Carries out other duties related to patient care and unit operations as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
● High School diploma required.
● Bachelor’s degree preferred.
● Certification in crisis intervention training required.
● Minimal two (2) years' experience with mentally ill patients preferred.
Skills:
● Knowledge of crisis prevention techniques and methods.
● Knowledge of psychiatric illness and manifestations.
● Knowledge of patient’s growth and development needs.
Abilities:
● Ability to quickly recognize changes in condition and needs of patients.
● Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties
