Duties & Responsibilities:
Leads, directs, and monitors department CQI (Continuous Quality
Improvement), Safety, and Maintenance Programs:
- Also directs equipment maintenance, and record retention programs to ensure routine review, compliance, and action if required.
- Coordinates and directs functions of Laboratory Sections within the departments and as well as internal and external clients.
- Plan, lead, coach, and direct departmental staff for:
- Performance
- Professional growth
- Operational improvements
- Appropriate workload staffing levels
- Job placement
- Behaviors
- Hiring
- Discipline
Plans and manages departmental material assets:
- Evaluates and approves purchases of all departmental material resources including supplies, services, and capital equipment.
- Approves new Laboratory services, instrumentation, tests, and addition of new external clients with Team planning and implementation.
- Ensures Department compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and accrediting agencies including, but not limited to:
- College of American Pathologists (CAP)
- Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP)
- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)
Plans, monitors, and corrects Fiscal and Staffing Budget performance:
- Plans Departmental Fiscal and Staffing Budget requirements.
- Monitors monthly budget performance indicators, daily workload, and staffing levels and makes adjustments if required.
- Responsible for self-development and education that provides the skills, knowledge, and effectiveness as a leader in a technically complex, multidisciplinary, and limited resource healthcare environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree in science or biochemistry is required.
- Master’s Degree in science, healthcare, or business administration preferred.
- Medical Technologist certification preferred.
- Ten years of experience in a growing clinical laboratory is required.
- Knowledge of technical, clinical, and business functions to manage and direct a complex multi-professional clinical laboratory in a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment is required.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills in a multi-professional, multi-disciplinary, and multi-cultural environment required.
- Leadership skills that develop departmental resources and direction through collaborative team building are required.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and adjusts resource budgets to meet department requirements required.
- Demonstrated analytical skills for sound and successful business decisions required.
- Ability to make dependent and independent decisions outside of established policies and practices required.
- Ability to simplify complex processes or situations to generate successful solutions required.
- Ability to problem solve and make the process and quality improvements required.
