Director of Recreation
IMCC is seeking a Director of Recreation who is primarily responsible for developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the day-to-day activities for Center participants. Thus position works with several assistants to create a calendar of person-centered, therapeutic and meaningful activities, reaching all domains of practice (cognitive, physical, spiritual, etc.) As the person-centered care model is the foundation of the program, this position is responsible for the overall engagement of the participants in programs that will not only meet their needs of engagement, but will offer the opportunity for them to be successful. The Director of Recreation directly oversees the Recreation Department. This position reports directly to the Day Center Director.
Qualifications/Skills
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Music, or Art Therapy (or related field), or equivalent work experience required
- Certified activity professional through a recognized accreditation body required
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred, but not required
- Experience in working with individuals with dementia required (5 years preferred)
- Experience in Managing and Supervising Staff (5 years preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
- Ability to work independently required
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend and squat for prolonged periods; Ability to push and pull objects and lift and carry up to 20 pounds, unassisted, on a frequent basis (occasionally up to 50 pounds); Full use of gross and fine motor skills of the upper and lower extremities (i.e., typing on a keyboard, use of a computer, mailings, etc.); Ability to drive a vehicle and navigate effectively in service region.
