JOB DESCRIPTION
Insight Global is seeking a Protection/Asset Classification Engineer for one of our large energy companies to support large-scale device and relay classification efforts across multiple sites. This role focuses on evaluating protective devices, understanding their function within protection schemes, and accurately classifying them according to Duke Energy standards. It’s a strong fit for an early-to mid-level engineer with a solid foundation in power system protection and a detail-oriented, analytical mindset.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing protection devices (mainly relays) across different sites
- Figuring out:
- What each device protects
- How it operates
- How it connects into the overall protection scheme
- Assigning the correct classification based on standards
- Entering/documenting that info into their system
- Working through a high volume of sites (300-400 over 6 months)
Must Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
- Basic understanding of
- Protective relays
- Power system protection concepts
- Utility-scale electrical systems
- Prior experience in utilities, power, or energy industry
Plusses:
- Exposure to protection schemes or substation equipment
- Experience with classification, asset assessment, or data-driven engineering work
Salary : $38 - $41
