Overview / Job Description
A large, environmentally and socially progressive heavy building materials company is seeking an experienced Plant Mechanic to support ready-mix concrete operations within the region. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and plays a critical role in ensuring plant reliability, equipment availability, and safe, continuous operations.
The Plant Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment across multiple concrete plants and facilities, including both stationary and mobile equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze work orders, schematics, and sketches to troubleshoot, repair, and install plant equipment
- Perform mechanical and electrical repairs to ensure continuous plant operations
- Conduct daily preventative maintenance inspections, repairs, and maintenance scheduling
- Maintain and repair engines, motors, conveyor systems, pneumatic tools, and production machinery
- Perform maintenance across multiple plant locations as required
- Prioritize multiple maintenance projects to maximize productivity and minimize downtime
- Identify opportunities to improve preventative maintenance programs and equipment reliability
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, managers, and plant personnel
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics
- Electrical troubleshooting and repair experience (certification preferred)
- Experience performing preventative maintenance inspections and scheduling
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Heavy equipment maintenance or operation experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards
Plusses
- Ready-mix concrete or related heavy industrial industry experience
- Formal electrical certification
- Experience working in multi-site or mobile maintenance roles
