Downstream Process Development Scientist

We are seeking a Scientist with hands-on experience in downstream purification of cell and gene therapy products, including viral vectors such as lentivirus. This individual will support purification process development, optimization, and manufacturing-related activities focused on producing high-quality viral vector products for therapeutic applications.

The ideal candidate will have experience with chromatography systems, filtration technologies, and downstream bioprocessing techniques used in biologics, viral vector, or gene therapy environments. Experience operating AKTA chromatography systems is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform downstream purification of viral vector products, including lentivirus and other gene therapy-related products.
• Operate and maintain AKTA chromatography systems for purification process execution and development.
• Execute filtration processes including tangential flow filtration (TFF), ultrafiltration, and sterile filtration.
• Support process development, optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer activities.
• Analyze process performance and document experimental results in accordance with GMP and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with process development, manufacturing, analytical, and quality teams to support project goals.
• Assist with troubleshooting purification processes and implementing process improvements.
• Author technical reports, protocols, batch records, and supporting documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
• Experience supporting purification or downstream processing of biologics, viral vectors, gene therapy products, or related modalities.
• Hands-on experience with chromatography techniques and purification operations.
• Knowledge of filtration methodologies used in bioprocessing environments.
• Strong understanding of bioprocessing principles and laboratory practices.
• Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and work in a cross-functional team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct experience purifying lentiviral vectors or other viral vector products.
• Hands-on operation of AKTA chromatography systems.
• Experience with tangential flow filtration (TFF), ultrafiltration, and viral vector concentration methods.
• Exposure to GMP manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting cell and gene therapy process development programs.

Compensation:

$35-50/hr

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
