About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a licensed and experienced Clinical Director to provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for therapists and clinical staff within their behavioral health treatment programs. This individual will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based care while supporting staff development, maintaining compliance standards, and overseeing clinical operations.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Clinical Director will serve as a clinical resource for complex cases, treatment planning, documentation review, and quality improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide individual and group supervision to therapists and assigned clinical staff.
  • Offer guidance related to assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical interventions.
  • Support clinicians in managing complex cases, crisis situations, and risk concerns.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical standards, professional licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Serve as a clinical consultant regarding patient care decisions and treatment recommendations.

Documentation & Quality Assurance

  • Review clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance.
  • Conduct chart audits, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure documentation is completed within required timelines.
  • Provide coaching and corrective feedback related to documentation and clinical standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and performance monitoring efforts.

Staff Development & Training

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new clinical team members.
  • Identify professional development opportunities and training needs.
  • Facilitate clinical trainings, case consultations, and educational sessions.
  • Mentor staff to support clinical growth and competency development.
  • Provide licensure supervision support when appropriate.

Patient Care Oversight

  • Monitor treatment planning to ensure services are individualized and clinically appropriate.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and patient staffing discussions.
  • Assist with assessments, crisis intervention, family sessions, or direct patient care as needed.
  • Ensure patients receive the appropriate level of care and treatment recommendations.
  • Promote continuity of care and positive patient outcomes.

Compliance & Program Support

  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, payer requirements, state regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Report compliance concerns, risk management issues, and clinical matters to leadership.
  • Support accreditation surveys, audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Assist with implementing clinical initiatives, policies, and program enhancements.
  • Collaborate with admissions, case management, medical providers, and leadership teams to support patient care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health discipline.

Licensure

  • Active independent clinical license in the state of practice (LISW, LPC, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist, or equivalent).

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Prior supervisory, leadership, or staff development experience preferred.
  • Experience in residential treatment, PHP, IOP, mental health, and/or substance use treatment settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of behavioral health and substance use treatment practices.
  • Expertise in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems.


Compensation: $70,000-$90,000/year. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
