We’re seeking an experienced Controller to lead all accounting operations for a mission‑driven organization in one of the most beautiful areas of Washington State. This is a highly visible role responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting, with oversight across general accounting, payroll accounting, accounts payable, internal controls, and financial close processes.
This is a hands-on leadership position supporting both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term financial strategy. You will supervise a skilled accounting team and partner closely with leadership across the organization to ensure compliance, strengthen internal controls, and drive process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to produce accurate, timely GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Oversee general ledger, revenue recording, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable workflows
- Manage and mentor accounting staff including AP, payroll, staff accountants, and senior accountants
- Direct payroll accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, documentation, proper GL recording, and timely reconciliation
- Ensure alignment of payroll rules with employee contracts and collective bargaining agreements
- Partner with Talent Management to maintain accurate employee data flow and strengthen payroll-related internal controls
- Oversee AP workflows to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with approval policies and contract terms
- Strengthen invoice routing, approval, vendor controls, matching/validation, and exception handling
- Develop and maintain standardized SOPs that improve efficiency, reduce errors, and streamline processing
- Maintain and enhance internal controls across financial reporting, payroll, cash handling, and disbursements
- Prepare audit-ready documentation, white papers, and support schedules for financial reporting judgments
- Support external audits, tax reporting, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Provide treasury-related accounting support including investment performance tracking
- Assist in Medicare/Medicaid cost report preparation and respond to audit requests
- Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings and manage minutes and deliverables
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls
- Strong knowledge of payroll accounting and AP workflow design
- Proficiency with accounting systems/ERP platforms
- Advanced Excel skills

Starting at $110,000 - $140,000 per year annual salary.
