INTRODUCTION

The Department of Physiology and Neurobiology (PNB) at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor, with a primary appointment at our Waterbury campus. This position offers a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and collaborative department deeply committed to undergraduate education and pedagogical innovation, with an anticipated start date in Fall 2025.

We seek a passionate and dedicated educator to teach a two-semester sequence in Human Anatomy and Physiology, including associated laboratory courses. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of new courses and educational initiatives that promote student engagement, intellectual growth, and academic success, particularly for undergraduates in Biology and Allied Health Sciences.

This role emphasizes teaching excellence and educational innovation. While research is not a requirement, there are ample opportunities to engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning and to pursue professional development aligned with your pedagogical interests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in physiology, neurobiology, or a closely related life science discipline.
  • Evidence of teaching undergraduate life science courses.
  • Demonstrated experience using educational technologies for course organization or student engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching high-enrollment courses, flipped courses, and laboratory courses.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Experience with technology-assisted teaching and experiential learning.
  • Experience with course and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a co-teaching environment.
  • Experience working with a diverse student body.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track position for an initial duration of one year and limited to a maximum duration of three (3) years. This position is subject to budgetary approval. The standard teaching load is seven three-credit courses per academic year, or the equivalent. While the primary teaching location is the Waterbury campus, the successful candidate will be expected to engage with colleagues and students across the University.
