What You’ll Do
The TSC Police Officer performs a wide variety of law enforcement activities specifically related to the school environment during the school year. Tasks are primarily service oriented and include working with and mentoring students, disseminating information, arbitrating disputes, and helping through referrals, property protection, crime prevention, investigative, and other public safety services.Candidate performs duties in accordance with Florida State Statutes and established departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines. The candidate must be able to work without close supervision and must be able to exercise independent judgment and discretion. Work is under the general supervision of a sergeant. The candidate must be a State of Florida certified law enforcement officer and be certified as a School Resource Officer (SRO), or willing to attend the training to become certified.

Day-to-day, You’ll Be Responsible For
- Patrols campus buildings and grounds while enforcing laws, rules, and regulations on campus. Provides escort service on campus. Provide relief or substitute for TSC Police Dispatchers. Locks and unlocks doors.
- Be Visible on Campus.
- Be visible in high crime areas.
- Identify and be visible in high crime areas.
- Conduct building checks every morning, and on a regular basis throughout the day, notify dispatch and document in CAD.
- Ensure campus buildings are secured during your tour of duty, especially if you are assigned the afternoon shift.
- Report any incidents to your supervisor immediately.
- Establishes public relations and provides general information. Provides traffic assistance (directs traffic, attends to traffic accidents, assists with parking problems, etc.). Provides written reports on investigations, complaints, security issues, etc. Reports observed safety hazards and documents incidents as appropriate.
- Establish credibility across campus.
- Consult with your supervisor regarding situations outside the scope of your authority.
- Ensure that Judicial Services receives reports when students commit crimes on campus and outside campus or violations of the Code of Student Conduct.
- Ensure investigative reports are followed up and completed with an update report.
- Report potential safety hazards.
- Use the proper equipment or tools for completing assigned tasks.
- Perform security and safety duties at off campus facilities that are owned, operated, or utilized by the College. Deliver messages and locate students on campus during emergencies.
- Provide staff with messages, both verbal and written, in clear and timely fashion.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information. Collects, prepares, and/or documents evidence and testifies in court.

- Make sure reports are concise.
- Maintain a neat and orderly appearance.

- Functions as Field Training Officer.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
We’re seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent, and one (1) year of law enforcement experience; or a combination of education and/or experience.
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statutes for certification as a Florida law enforcement officer.
- Must be a certified police officer or in the process of obtaining certification.
- Two (2) years of active and continuous military or other appropriate public contact experience may substitute for the required experience.
- Appropriate college course work or vocational training may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis at the rate of 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university, or 720 classroom hours from a vocational or technical school.
- Preference will be given to applicants with at least one (1) year of campus security or law enforcement experience
