Responsibilities

This role is fully in person (not hybrid or remote).

The Title IX Coordinator & Compliance Officer serves as the University's designated Title IX Coordinator and is responsible for overseeing institutional compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. This position provides leadership for Title IX investigations, policy implementation, training, and compliance oversight.

The Coordinator ensures the University's response to reports of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and related retaliation is prompt, equitable, and compliant with federal regulations and institutional policy. This role operates with a high level of independence and institutional authority and is responsible for managing sensitive matters with discretion, neutrality, and professionalism.

This position focuses exclusively on Title IX compliance and Non-Title IX sexual harassment and misconduct and does not include oversight of ADA compliance, student conduct, or student engagement functions. The position will focus exclusively on reports of harassment and discrimination based on protected status. This includes cases that fall under Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, or other federal and state nondiscrimination laws and regulations.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Title IX Coordination & Case Management

  • Serve as the University's designated Title IX Coordinator.
  • Oversee the intake, initial assessment, and resolution of all Title IX reports and complaints.
  • Coordinate supportive measures for involved parties in collaboration with appropriate campus units.
  • Ensure timely, equitable, and consistent handling of all cases in accordance with federal regulations and University policy.

Investigations

  • Conduct or oversee impartial, thorough, and trauma-informed investigations of Title IX complaints.
  • Interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses; gather and assess evidence.
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports, including findings of fact and credibility assessments.
  • Coordinate with hearing officers or adjudication processes as applicable.

Policy Development & Compliance Oversight

  • Maintain, review, and update Title IX policies and procedures to ensure alignment with federal regulations, guidance, and best practices.
  • Ensure integration and alignment with related institutional policies (e.g., student conduct, HR policies, Clery compliance).
  • Lead annual policy review and continuous improvement processes.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with legal counsel and external consultants on Title IX matters.

Training & Prevention

  • Develop and implement training programs for students, faculty, and staff related to Title IX, sexual misconduct, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Coordinate campus-wide awareness and prevention initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with training requirements under federal regulations.

Institutional Compliance & Risk Management

  • Monitor institutional compliance with Title IX regulations and identify areas of risk.
  • Maintain accurate and secure records of all Title IX reports, investigations, and outcomes.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for internal leadership, audits, and accreditation purposes.
  • Support institutional readiness for external reviews, including compliance audits and accreditation processes.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Collaborate with campus partners including Human Resources, Campus Safety, Athletics, Academic Affairs, and other relevant University units.
  • Provide regular updates and escalate high-risk matters to the Senior Vice President for Strategic Enrollment and Retention Management and other senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Promote a campus environment that supports equity, safety, and compliance.

Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A Master's degree is required. Candidates must possess a minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in Title IX, civil rights investigations, compliance, higher education administration, or a related field. Formal training or certification in Title IX investigations is required.

Candidates must demonstrate experience conducting investigations, including interviewing, evidence analysis, report writing, and credibility assessments. Experience in higher education Title IX administration is required. Knowledge of Title IX regulations, Clery Act/VAWA requirements, and related federal guidance is essential.

The successful candidate must possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Experience with policy development, compliance oversight, and case management software such as Maxient is preferred. The ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism is required.

Preferred qualifications include a Juris Doctor (JD) and five or more years of progressive experience in Title IX administration or higher education compliance.

INSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY

The Title IX Coordinator & Compliance Officer is vested with institutional authority to oversee and implement Title IX compliance efforts, including investigations, policy enforcement, training, and coordination across University divisions. This position serves as the University's primary point of contact for Title IX matters and ensures alignment with federal regulatory requirements.
