Shasta College is seeking an experienced CDL Driving Instructor to provide hands-on, behind-the-wheel training.
This position is ideal for retired or semi-retired drivers who want to stay active in the industry, share their knowledge, and make a meaningful impact—without the demands of long-haul driving. Additionally, this position is great for anyone that is qualified and seeks part-time, punctuated, temporary work. Training hours are dependent on student enrollment
Our program is well-established and successful, with small class sizes (just 2 students at a time), allowing for a relaxed, focused, and highly rewarding teaching environment.
CLASSIFICATION: Temporary Employee Salary Schedule
SUPERVISOR: Project Coordinator of Community and Contract Education or designee

SUPERVISOR: Project Coordinator of Community and Contract Education or designee
Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
- Provide behind-the-wheel training for Class A students
- Teach pre-trip inspections, vehicle control, backing, and safe road driving
- Reinforce defensive driving and hazard awareness
- Evaluate student performance and provide guidance
- Prepare students for CDL skills and road testing
- Maintain accurate training documentation
- Model safe, professional driving habits
- Total assignment hours is approx. 44 hours per student trainee
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions
- Current DOT Medical Certificate (DOT Physical)
- Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience
- Clean driving record
- Strong communication and mentoring skills
- Enrollment in the districts Controlled Substances and Alcohol Testing Program
- Enrollment in the DMV employee pull notice program
- Ability to safely demonstrate proficiency in commercial vehicles
