Description

Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the Student Success Advocate will focus on promoting holistic student wellness through providing early support and follow-up for complex situations involving students of concern. This role will monitor students and develop action plans to assist in the retention and completion goals of students through participation on the institution's Campus Assessment, Response and Education (CARE) team, facilitation of referrals to on-and off-campus resources, and advocacy for students to support their success. In addition, this role will develop and lead programs, trainings, and workshops for faculty, staff, and students that support holistic student development and success.

  • Proactively engage with students identified as experiencing barriers to their academic success through outreach, individual appointments, and ongoing follow-up.
  • Monitor and respond to early alerts and campus referrals in a timely and student-centered manner.
  • Develop individualized support plans in collaboration with students, addressing both immediate needs and longer-term success goals.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case notes and documentation in the institution's student information systems.
  • Coordinate cross-campus interventions to address immediate student concerns and long-term needs.
  • Administer a Student Support Fund in partnership with Financial Aid staff to assist students facing short-term financial challenges.
  • Serve as an active member of the Campus Assessment, Response and Education (CARE) Team.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community agencies to expand the network of resources available to students.
  • Design, lead, and support programs and initiatives within the Student Life department aimed at improving retention and student success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Familiarity with and basic understanding of student development theory and practice, student personnel functions, regulations, students’ rights, and student development concepts.
  • In-depth knowledge of basic needs programs and resources.
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion concepts and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NaBITA), harm-to-self and harm-to-others D-Scale rubric, threat assessment, emergency management, the Clery Act, and all applicable laws at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Knowledge of advertising and promotion techniques relates to student activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent coordination, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office computer skills.
  • Ability to train and instruct others effectively.
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, human services, psychology, or related field.
  • One to three (3) years of experience in College Student Services, preferably related to Student Life/Development and/or Student Conduct.
  • Experience working with underrepresented populations preferred.
  • Candidates with knowledge of community resources and human service agencies in Southeastern, WI are encouraged to apply.

Supplemental Information

This position is a limited term employment (LTE) and is grant funded through June 30, 2027.

Typical hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
