Position Overview
The Schiefelbusch Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic provides speech-language pathology and audiology services to KU, the Lawrence community, and surrounding areas. Clinic personnel includes clinical professors, staff, and KU undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing. Student Office Assistants (SOAs) offer direct professional support to the clinic’s office manager. This includes greeting all SPLH Clinic visitors (e.g., clients, KU students, faculty) and providing office assistance.
Due to a conflict of interest, students enrolled in the SPLH program are not eligible to apply for this position.

Job Description30%- Communication Support
- Assist in answering emails and phone calls, including responding to basic questions and/or directing visitors or callers to the appropriate person within the clinic or department.
- Perform common office tasks such as sorting mail, running errands, photocopying, scanning, and filing.
- Enter data into the electronic medical record (EMR) system accurately and efficiently.
- Help maintain a professional and tidy office environment.
- Greet all visitors politely and professionally upon arrival.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the office manager or clinic staff.
- Students must be eligible for Federal Work-Study and have received or expect to receive an award, as indicated on application materials.
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, as indicated on application materials.
- Experience with basic computer functions, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook), as indicated on application materials.
- Prior experience with customer service, as indicated on application materials.
- Experience communicating with individuals with different abilities (e.g., hearing loss, disabilities), as indicated on application materials.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Outlook, as indicated on application materials.
