POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Copy Editor - Blazer

STATUS: Part time

DEPARTMENT: Dean of Students

DIVISION: Student Development

REPORTS TO: Nick Obradovich

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour

(Position is FWS Eligible)

Essential Job Duties And Key Responsibilities

• Edit stories for errors and style.
• Understand and apply Associated Press style to all written works.
• Work with co-editors as needed during production week.
• Work with co-editors to ensure accuracy and fairness of stories.
• Write a minimum of one story per issue.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• GPA of 2.0 or above.
• Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours.
• College or advanced high school experience with editing.
• Strong grammar and writing skills.
• A basic understanding of Associated Press Style.
• Willingness to work at off hours during production week.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to work in team environment.
• Experience with taking photos for the Blazer.
• English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
• Demonstrated multicultural competence.
  
  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to cover live events.
• Ability to work in normal office environment.
  
  

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Both indoor and outdoor.
  
  

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
