Candidate will apply sound accounting principles while performing a variety of complex tasks including; grant reconciliation, examination and maintenance of grant financial reports, and preparation of standardized accounting reports to Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) at Sul Ross State University (SRSU). Candidate will serve as liaison between BRI and Finance & Operations office at SRSU, and will assist as back-up with other SRSU grant accountants and grants.
Primary Duties
Administer BRI grants and contracts; reconcile all state, federal, and private grant receivables; maintain grant and contract files and calendars; assist with preparation of detailed periodic financial reports, annual finance reports, and other financial projects; other duties as assigned. Example tasks include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times, including maintaining data security and confidentiality.
Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.
Position is security sensitive.

- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or similar field.
- Must have excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and be detail oriented.
- Must have experience in government or commercial accounting, or equivalent training.
- Must skillfully operate personal computers, calculators, and standard office machines.
- Seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable team player who is willing to work in a multidisciplinary program.
- A Master’s degree in accounting or business administration, and having gained some or all work experience in a university grant or accounting office.

- Monitors accounts and provides timely reports on account balances.
- Assists with monitoring/tracking matching grant programs.
- Assists with grant report writing (e.g., account balances).
- Works with Accounting Services to ensure accounting accuracy.
- Help establish grant accounts in Banner.
- Provides oversight on grant routing forms.
- Assist with tracking gifts and donations.
