Position OverviewThe Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs or GEAR UP program is seeking a Site Coordinator to develop and implement pre-college programming in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. The Site Coordinator will academically and financially prepare middle and high school students for post-secondary education. The Site Coordinator will use independent judgement and discretion when engaging and working with teachers, parents, and community partners to successfully meet GEAR UP objectives. The Site Coordinator will also serve as part of the project team when discussing overall program objectives with district and school administrators. The successful applicant will have college access, classroom, and professional development experience.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment. KU is not able to provide H-1B sponsorship for this position.Job Description60% - Develop and implement day-to-day program activities and services for the GEAR UP Program in KCKPS, such as Academic Skill Building, Career Exploration, and Financial Literacy Workshops for students, parents, and teachers. Connect with KCKPS teachers to determine tutoring needs, coordinate schedules with available tutors, and supervise the work of those tutors in each of the schools in coordination with Project Directors.
10% - Assess effectiveness of programming and collect GEAR UP programming data. Propose modifications to program delivery based on each school’s needs, in coordination with the GEAR UP project team.
10% - Work with administration and school-based partners in the delivery of project by co-planning academic and college-readiness programming for students, parents, and teachers.
10% - Provide professional development on Academic Tools and Best Teaching Practices to teachers and students.
5% - Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Program Directors of GEAR UP Program, such as proposal development, professional development, and service advisory committees.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, counseling or related fields OR high school diploma/GED and three (3) years of experience in field of study
- One (1) year experience in a school setting
- One (1) year professional experience with target population (as noted in position overview)
- Familiarity with the college admissions process as evidenced by application materials
- Exemplary written communication skills as evidenced by application materials
- Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field
- STEM background or experience as evidenced by application materials
- ELL background or experience as evidenced by application materials
- Bi-Lingual
