Responsibilities
This position is responsible for administering authorized insurance plans at the University, including employee education, enrollment, changes, and terminations from approved benefit programs. This position also serves as the lead specialist and quality control point for the Insurance area.
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in human resources or a related field; or a high school diploma/equivalency and eight years of the same experience. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for administering authorized insurance plans at the University, including employee education, enrollment, changes, and terminations from approved benefit programs. This position also serves as the lead specialist and quality control point for the Insurance area.
- Responsible for administering the University's benefit plans, both pre-tax and post-tax, including health, life, and supplemental benefit plans. Ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines. Responsible for researching and benchmarking best practices. Responsible for updating policies and procedures for insurance benefit changes keeping the University in compliance with Federal and State Law. Supervises two insurance specialists and provides leadership, direction, and performance feedback relevant to insurance and program administration.
- Responsible for counseling employees on benefit information, issues, or concerns regarding benefit eligibility criteria, coverage, and cost; completion of forms or enrollment with benefit plans administrator(s); and communication and coordination with vendors. Manage enrollments and insurance changes for employees. Serves as a liaison between FSU, PeopleFirst, and benefit vendors.
- Responsible for the coordination and completion of payroll queries for insurance to ensure integrity in the benefit deduction data and processes. Responsible for the coordination and review of the PeopleFirst reports ensuring accurate employee deductions and compliance. Initiates correction actions to ensure premiums and refunds are processed timely and accurately. Coordinates actions with the payroll department certifying payroll deduction authorizations of University employees and ensuring accurate payments.
- Assists the Assistant Director with the coordination of the Benefits and Wellness Fair. Coordinates and schedules Open Enrollment and requested benefit sessions with departments on campus. Responsible for insurance data requests and special projects such as the Benefits planning seminars and New Faculty Orientation.
- Provides assistance to and facilitates cross-training efforts to support the Retirement team.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the human resources principles, practices, and standards for benefits administration
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to provide subject matter expertise and counseling to others
- Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to organize and coordinate work processes to meet deadlines
- Ability to utilize problem solving skills and perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment'
- Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft
- Previous supervisory experience, including the ability to train employees and develop employees
- Experience with benefits administration in the People First
- Effective process evaluation and improvement skills
