College/Department Information

Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.

Job Summary

Assist with performing cell culture, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, histological studies, gene silencing and overexpression, and genotyping assay in the laboratory. Assist with the maintenance of mouse colonies and breeding to generate unique combinations of lines for experiments. Assist with tracking and maintaining lab supplies, purchases, and related records.

Responsibilities

EXPERIMENTAL SETUP AND EXECUTION: Assist with lab experiments including cell culture, protein and RNA isolation, western blot, PCR, ELISA, and Immunohistochemistry according to the research protocols.

DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Assist with data collection during experimental procedures, maintaining detailed records of all results and observations.

ANIMAL CARE AND HANDLING: Assist with animal care and handling, following established protocols for the care and handling of laboratory mice, ensuring their well-being and adherence to ethical guidelines.

COLLABORATIVE SUPPORT: Work closely with the research team, assisting with contributions to the development of experimental protocols and preparation of experiments and equipment. Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts based on experimental results.

LABORATORY MAINTENANCE: Assist in maintaining the laboratory environment, including the upkeep of equipment, inventory management, package pickup, and ensuring that all safety protocols are followed.

OTHER: Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

OR

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cell culture, animal breeding, genotyping, routine lab experiments like western blot and RNA isolation/qPCR.

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Detail-oriented with strong organization, multi-tasking and prioritization skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines.

Willingness and ability to work with research animals.

Highly motivated, strong work ethic and desire to learn.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Salary Range: $17.88-$21.63 hourly.

Pay Band: B5

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.

Recruitment Period: Until Filled.

Conditions of Employment
