Description

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure research track. Expertise is required in the specific area of development and application of biostatistics methods and AI/ML models (particularly, generative AI and agentic AI) for clinical trials and real-world data in oncology. Candidates with postdoctoral training are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include conducting research with a standing faculty member involving collaborative research studies, and the development, evaluation, or application of biostatistics methods and AI/ML models for clinical trials and real-world data (e.g., EHR/EMR and registry data). Candidates with experience in these areas are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to attract and maintain extramural funding.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC)’s Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core and the Center for Cancer Data Science and is expected to collaborate with ACC members. As such, prior experiences in collaboration in cancer research and analyses of cancer data are strongly preferred.

Additional qualifications include: 1) Expertise in statistical and ML programming (R, Python); 2) Demonstrated ability to lead peer-reviewed publications and support multi-site collaborative research projects; 3) Experience in collaborating with biomedical researchers, particularly physician-scientists; 4) Demonstrated aptitude working with state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, Overleaf/LaTeX, GitHub, and supporting reproducible research pipelines; and 5) Strong communication skills.

The University of Pennsylvania is a vibrant team-science-oriented environment with elite biomedical research collaborators that is ideal for biostatistical collaboration and application-driven methodological research. The Division of Biostatistics includes over 30 full-time faculty with diverse expertise spanning numerous methodological and biomedical areas, and we have strong, highly ranked, and growing MS and PhD programs in which we train the next generation of innovative quantitative leaders.
