Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
The Kathrine R. Everett Law Library supports the education of Carolina Law students, acts as a research partner with faculty and students, and serves the legal information needs of University students and faculty, the legal community, and the residents of North Carolina. To that end, the Law Library’s mission is:
The Kathrine R. Everett Law Library invites applications for the temporary position of Reference Librarian.
The Reference Librarian is responsible for providing general reference services and staffing the reference and circulation desks as scheduled. The librarian assists students, faculty, and other library users with research requests and provides support for faculty research requests under the direction of supervising librarians. The Reference Librarian may conduct in-office research appointments with students and will assist in the delivery of instructional services, including supporting the planning, scheduling, and teaching of research classes, library tours, and other educational programs. The Reference Librarian will assist with the preparation and maintenance of library guides, handouts, and other research tools, including updating existing materials. The Reference Librarian may also complete other designated short-term assignments or projects as needed to support ongoing library operations.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from A.L.A. accredited library or information school and Juris Doctor from A.B.A. accredited law school required. All required degrees must be conferred by accredited institution prior to the employee’s start date.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Knowledge of legal materials and current research methods; organizational and project management skills and the ability to work as part of a team; ability to interact positively with students, faculty, staff and the public; strong service orientation; strong legal analytical skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Demonstrated experience in academic law libraries; demonstrated teaching experience.
