Scope Of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) Department of Pharmacy’s mission is to improve people’s lives through pharmacy practice innovation, comprehensive medication education, and collaborative clinical and practice research. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for the order, receipt, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals throughout the OSUWMC. In addition, the Department is responsible to meet regulatory and enforcement requirements for the secure access of pharmaceuticals within the OSUWMC. The Ohio State University Physicians, Inc. (OSUP) provides outpatient care throughout Central Ohio and the surrounding areas. OSUP has engaged OSUWMC Department of Pharmacy to provide certain pharmacy procurement, inventory and contract management services to OSUP. This position will provide corporate inventory/procurement guidance for OSUP clinics that administer medications within the medical center.
OSUP is the approved not-for-profit practice plan for The Ohio State University College of Medicine designated by the University Board of Trustees with the goal of improving access to high quality, patient-focused care through the alignment of individual institutional and departmental missions and resource allocation. OSU Physicians Inc. has approximately 90 offices and clinics incurring approximately $21M in drug expenses annually.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Buyer works under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and has purchasing purview for the clinics under OSU Physicians. The buyer supports the clinics with purchases of pharmaceutical supplies and services, assuring cost containment, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, directing end-users to approved products and vendors whenever possible. The buyer is responsible for daily processing of pharmaceutical supplies and services within the constraints of our primary and secondary vendor agreements, special requisitions and expediting orders, if necessary, in order to meet critical patient care and operational needs. They monitor electronic orders in real-time and take necessary actions to prevent potential delays and pricing issues. This position will be responsible for routinely visiting clinics throughout the Columbus metropolitan area.

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- 2-4 years’ experience in Supply Chain Management, Business, Healthcare or relevant field
- 1-2 years’ experience in pharmacy operations or as a pharmacy technician
- Pharmacy Technician certification (May receive after hire)
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Healthcare or relevant field
- Relevant experience such as pharmaceutical care inventory management and/or purchasing
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Certification in a related field
