Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit

The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been awarded a $3.73 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences for a five-year project to establish the Center for Virtual Care Value and Excellence (ViVE). ViVE will foster expertise in virtual care data and create workforce development opportunities with its partners throughout North Carolina and the nation. ViVE will build a repository of real-world virtual care data not previously available to researchers. The center will also develop frameworks to guide investigators through the design, implementation, and evaluation of virtual care research, offering training and support throughout the process. We expect this group to advance the availability of quality health care beyond the walls of the clinic, especially to those traditionally underserved by American medicine.

Position Summary

The Project Manager will be a key team member, directing multiple community and research projects and initiatives for the NIH-funded Center for Virtual Care Value and Excellence (ViVE). The primary purpose of this position is to lead the planning, developmental, and operational aspects of each project/initiative. This position will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders and partners in academic and community settings, including RTI International and other national professional societies. The Project Manager will drive the success of multiple projects at one time.

This position will provide technical expertise and direct research staff on various (provide data collection measures for research studies. The Project Manager will create and maintain online data capture databases for multiple projects and oversee the data for all projects.

The Project Manager will contribute to creating research/program proposals and manuscripts. This position will create study protocols, federal reports, compliance documents, and other technical documents for all projects. This position will be responsible for developing and overseeing budgets and timelines for all projects/initiatives.

The Project Manager will conduct training with research staff, including data analysts, post-doctoral trainees and research assistants. Quarterly meetings with advisory board members and community partners will occur either during or after regular business hours, and data collection is periodically conducted during weekdays. This position also requires a flexible workday schedule for deadlines and meeting initiative objectives.

Position Responsibilities Will Include

  • Overseeing the development and implementation of the project’s plan. This includes working with the project team to develop goals and objectives and then develop and manage the activities that will help the project achieve its goals.
  • Managing the project timeline to ensure time-dependent study goals are met over the study period organizing, documenting, and archiving project-related meetings/minutes
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. This includes working with researchers, healthcare providers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to ensure the project’s work aligns with their needs and priorities.
  • Ability to analyze project research data, generate evaluation reports, and present findings effectively.
  • Maintaining IRB applications (modifications and renewals)
  • Hiring and training staff ((e.g., data analysts) and research assistants needed for intervention and data collection, data tracking/documentation activities that the study manager takes primary responsibility for monitoring recruitment, data collection, and incentive distribution efforts, and coordinating necessary corrections to study processes to ensure targets are met
  • Supervising students and staff members
  • Overseeing staff and research assistants working on the study as directed by the PI and outlined in the organizational chart
  • Disseminating the project’s findings and recommendations. This includes writing reports, presenting at conferences, and publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Compiling draft reports required by the funding agency, the IRB, and/or other entities
  • Filing required clinical trial registration
  • Tracking expenses and maintaining organized project files

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in fields related to business or project management.
  • Previous experience in project management, preferably in a research environment.
  • Experience with analyzing project data, generating reports, and presenting findings effectively.
  • Relevant experience in project management, healthcare, or equity.
  • Effective communication and engagement with stakeholders at all levels, including faculty, staff, students, and administration.
  • Planning and organizing skills: Planning, organizing, directing and facilitating skills.
  • Communication and leadership skills: Skilled in leadership and effective communication.
  • Budget management skills: Experience developing budgets and oversight of budgets with regard to staffing and other details of a project.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.
  • Knowledge of research methods: data management and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening and conflict resolution.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations and grant management.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience managing an NIH-funded Center.
  • Experience working in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Certification project management.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems using critical thinking and data-driven approaches.
  • Proficient in Agile or Waterfall methodologies and adapting them to the specific needs of the project.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with event planning

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and ensure project deliverables are of high quality.
