Primary Purpose Of The Organizational Unit:

Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to the entire UNCG campus. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is the maintenance and repair of campus plumbing systems, from the city water supply to the sewage systems. Included in this is the installation and repair of the plumbing fixtures and planned and preventative maintenance on existing water and sewage disposal systems. This position reports to the Plumbing Shop supervisor and is responsible for the maintenance of domestic water, heating equipment, and other routine maintenance as assigned by supervision.

This position is a mandatory position as defined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. SOME POSITIONS MAY REQUIRE SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE AREA RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, And Certificates:

Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum 5 years of progressive plumbing experience in an institutional or commercial environment.
  • A plumbing license, and a back-flow certification for testing and repairing.

Alternate Option:

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance

Essential Tasks:

  • Performs scheduled PM tasks on various equipment and systems.
  • Continually evaluates PM tasks and passes recommendations to PM Coordinator.
  • Periodically surveys buildings to identify equipment not on PM program.
  • Initiates corrective work orders for major repairs discovered during PMs.
  • Accomplishes corrective work orders in response to trouble calls.

  • Install and repair domestic cold and hot water piping.
  • Install and repair sewer systems.
  • Install and repair water heaters and circulation pumps.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures and water fountains.
  • Test and Repair Back Flow Devices.

Construction – In House

Essential Tasks:

  • Plumbing work in support of in-house renovation/construction projects.
  • Submit labor and material reports to supervisor daily.
  • Ensure sufficient materials are on hand for completion of project.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle is available for servicing and ready for use.
  • Perform other tasks as may be safely and legally assigned by supervisor.

  • Maintains accurate labor and material records on all work.
  • Submits labor and material reports to TMA work order log daily.
  • Ensures sufficient quantities of frequently used materials are in warehouse.
  • Ensures assigned vehicle is kept clean and available for service when required.
