Position Summary

We are currently building a pool of qualified part-time faculty to support our academic programs. Candidates will be contacted as needed, each semester, based on student enrollment numbers and program requirements.

The Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography (SAG) department is currently building a pool of qualified part-time faculty to support our academic courses and programs. Part-Time Instructors are a member of the academic team committed to advancing high-quality, equity-minded education at Anne Arundel Community College.

Part-Time Instructors will be responsible for the delivery of engaging and inclusive educational content in courses such as Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Introduction to Biological Anthropology, and Introduction to Archaeology. Instructors will facilitate thoughtful discussion, support student learning, and promote critical inquiry across the breadth of anthropology, including cultural practices and meaning-making, human biological variation and evolution, material culture and the archaeological record, social organization and power, identity and difference, and the diverse lived experiences of past and present human communities.

Candidates will be contacted as needed, each semester, based on student enrollment numbers and program requirements.

The pay range for this position is $3,510 to $3,789 per course.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize instructional materials, including readings, activities, assignments, and digital content.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction aligned with departmental curriculum, learning objectives, and assessment practices.
  • Facilitate engaged, inclusive classroom discussions that draw on cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and archaeology to explore human diversity, identity, adaptation, inequality, power, and the material record across time and space.
  • Maintain a learning environment that supports student success, critical thinking, and academic growth.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Submit attendance records, grades, and other required documentation by established deadlines.
  • Refer students to AACC support services as needed (tutoring, advising, disability support, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Academic Chair and Discipline Expert to ensure course competencies and departmental expectations are met.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology or a closely related field.
  • Ability to facilitate respectful, inclusive discussions on complex and sensitive topics.
  • Basic technology proficiency, including use of Canvas, email, and digital instructional tools.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the college or university level (online and/or in person).
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and applying equity-minded instructional practices.
  • Availability for daytime, face-to-face and/or online synchronous instructional formats.
