Classification Title:
OPS Lab and field research assistant
Classification Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in soil, plant, biological, or agricultural sciences, or a similar relevant field. A valid US driver's license at the time of hire is necessary.
Job Description:
This position is research-focused, and primarily lab-based, although the assistant will help with field activities as well.
The primary focus of the research the assistant will support is soil fertility and soil health, including sample preparation such as soil sieving and weighing, sample extraction with Mehlich-3 extracting or potassium chloride, incubations for carbon or nitrogen mineralization assays, and sample analysis by colorimetry or fluorometry.
The assistant will also help with plant analyses, including sample grinding and sample preparation for analysis. The assistant will help with maintaining the lab in good order by helping with dish washing, preparing and shipping samples for external analysis, and conducting preliminary data compilation, validation, and analysis.
Expected Salary:
$17-$19 Hourly
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in soil, plant, biological, or agricultural sciences, or a similar relevant field. A valid US driver's license at the time of hire is necessary.
Preferred:
A graduate degree with three years or more of experience in lab protocols related to soil fertility and soil health. Experience in field research in Florida is also a plus.
