Department Information

The UNG Department of Music strives to provide a quality education for developing musicians by fostering excellence in artistry and scholarship through a supportive peer environment, individualized attention, and diverse approaches to instruction, leading to a lifelong engagement with music. Our distinguished faculty, combined with a low student-to-faculty ratio, enables students to cultivate musicianship in a supportive environment. The Music Department presents a diverse series of ensemble performances, student and faculty recitals, guest artist master classes, and concerts each year, and serves as a cultural center for communities in North Georgia.

Job Summary

The University of North Georgia Department of Music seeks a dynamic educator and musician for a one-year, ten-month full-time, Limited Term Faculty position (non-tenure track) in music. The ideal candidate will teach courses in aural skills and other theory and/or music technology related areas as well as courses in the general music curriculum including Music Appreciation. The ideal candidate will also assist with efforts and initiatives to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality students in the Music Department.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in aural skills.
  • Teach course in written theory, music technology, or music appreciation.
  • Teach courses in other areas of interest/expertise as needed.
  • Assist with recruiting initiatives for the Music Department such as Music Major for a Day.
  • Work with colleagues in the theory to ensure annual SLO assessments are completed for assigned courses.
  • Attend and participate in Music Department meetings.
  • Contribute fully to the artistic and intellectual life of the Department and support the student- centered and collegial culture of the Music Program.
  • Participate in events and activities on evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties or teaching assignments as assigned by the Department Head.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree is required.
  • Doctorate in music theory, music composition, or related field is preferred (ABD considered)
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Music Appreciation.
  • Experience teaching aural skills and written theory.
  • Experience teaching music technology, recording, or digital audio arts.
  • Experience working with diverse learners and/or in diverse teaching environments.
