The Department of Engineering Education (https://eed.osu.edu/) at The Ohio State University invites applications for a part-time Lecturer appointment to teach first-year engineering courses.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking applicants from all engineering backgrounds for the position of part-time Lecturer to teach in firstyear engineering courses beginning in January 2026 for the 2025-26 academic year.

First-year courses include the two-course Standard Fundamentals of Engineering sequence (ENGR 1181 and 1182), the twocourse Honors Fundamentals of Engineering sequence (ENGR 1281 and 1282), and the stand-alone MATLAB course (ENGR 1221). All courses are taught in person on the University’s main campus in Columbus, Ohio

The Standard and Honors Fundamentals of Engineering sequences both have classroom and lab components. The classroom includes engineering graphics and the use of computer tools such as Excel, MATLAB, C/C (Honors only), Word, PowerPoint, and CAD software. In the labs, students collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, and each sequence culminates with a design-build-test project to solve a real-world problem. Developing teamwork and communication skills is an essential part of these courses. The stand-alone MATLAB course introduces computer programming and problem-solving techniques with MATLAB applications in engineering and the physical sciences.

Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent

  • A passion for teaching undergraduate engineering students
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with fellow instructors, graduate teaching associates, and undergraduate teaching assistants.

Desired

  • PhD in engineering or equivalent
  • Experience teaching in a learning setting including, but not limited to, K-12 classroom experience or higher education teaching as an instructor of record or graduate teaching assistant
