Job Summary

The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for the position of Lecturer of Political Science in the Department of Political Science & International Affairs (PSIA). The successful candidate will teach fully online with five sections of POLS 1101 American Government during the fall and spring semesters as their load. They may teach an additional section of POLS 1101 during the summer session if they so choose. UNG uses the Brightspace/D2L learning management system for all of its online education. Once this job is accepted the incoming faculty member will be required to do the FLOC (facilitating online learning class) offered by UNG prior to starting teaching in August 2026.

This position is fully remote, with the faculty member not based on any of UNG's physical campuses and only teaching online courses for the department. However, the work must be performed within the territorial boundaries of the United States. If outside of the state of Georgia, the physical location where a candidate expects to regularly perform work must be reviewed and approved by Human Resources and Legal Affairs to confirm feasibility and compliance with state and local laws.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for teaching 15 hours per semester (5/5; undergraduate) of online POLS 1101 American Government classes for the department.
  • The successful candidate must have a strong background in online education and be able to incorporate departmental assessments and required elements from the University System of Georgia.
  • A successful candidate will be required to hold a minimum of six online office hours per week between 8am and 5pm Eastern time.

Required Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must have a Masters in political science or a related field, Ph.D. preferred.
  • They must have a successful teaching background in American Government in the online environment as evidenced by teaching evaluations, syllabi, or other supporting documentation.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who:
  • Have a strong background in teaching American Government
  • A willingness to engage in online instruction
  • Are committed to strongly supporting the core curriculum at UNG through the online mode of instruction.
