Job Summary

The School of Health Professions at Dalton State College (DSC) invites applicants for two full-time (10 month), Lecturer/tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing beginning as soon as possible. Faculty workload at Dalton State College consists of the following five components: (1) teaching, (2) student success, (3) research/scholarship/creative activity or academic achievement, (4) professional service to the institution or community, and (5) professional growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the nursing sequence as well as additional coursers in their area of expertise in the classroom. Other duties include advising and mentoring students, keeping office hours, developing curriculum, assessment of student learning, providing service to the campus and community, and undertaking professional development. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, off-campus, or online courses. DSC's Nursing department has two locations, Main Campus at Dalton and the Mountain Campus in Elljay.

Candidates with a Master's degree in Nursing or related field may be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must earn a Master's degree in Nursing or related field within three years of start date. Bachelor degree candidates would be hired as a Lecturer with consideration for promotion to Assistant Professor once Master's degree in Nursing or related field has been completed.

Salary commensurate with education level and experience

Lecturer minimum $54,000

Assistant Professor minimum $65,000

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses at the undergraduate nursing level with clinical responsibilities. The teaching load will consist of 24 to 30 credit hours (based on nursing contact hours) per academic year.
  • Advise students using Banner/Degree Works each semester for the subsequent semesters, assist with graduation applications, mentor students, and assist with career placement.
  • Actively participate and serve on committees in the college, school, and community.
  • Participate in other appropriate service and professional activities related to the field of expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have an unencumbered Georgia or multi-state compact registered nurse (RN) license.
  • An earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of a minimum of two years nursing experience.
  • To teach Licensed Practical Nurse students, Georgia Board of Nursing mandates a minimum of three (3) years of practice as a registered nurse within the preceding seven (7) years (Rule 410-9-07 #2-a-2)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate, in the field of expertise.
  • College classroom teaching experience.
