Job Summary
The HVAC Mechanic I is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems under general supervision. This role supports senior HVAC technicians in performing preventive maintenance and basic repairs to ensure the efficient operation of HVAC systems in various settings. This is an essential position when emergency situations occur on campus. The incumbent is required to respond to campus (weather and safety permitting) to oversee critical functions during university emergencies and closures.
NOTE: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.

The proposed salary is $24.03 per hour.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems, including air handlers, furnaces, condensers, chillers, pumps, and ductwork.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of HVAC systems and components.
- Replace filters, belts, motors, thermostats, and other parts under supervision.
- Conduct preventative maintenance according to established schedules.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe and clean working condition.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal HVAC codes and regulations.
- Log work performed and maintain accurate service records.
- Follow safety procedures and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Respond to service calls and emergencies as needed, including after-hours shifts on occasion.
- Support senior HVAC technicians and other team members as directed.
- Perform preventive maintenance and make daily routine visual inspections of boiler rooms, heating and cooling systems, and equipment in assigned buildings and areas; check fluid levels and belt tightness.
- Respond to emergency calls and/or work orders related to air conditioning, heating, hot water equipment, and ventilation systems.
- May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of experience repairing and troubleshooting residential or commercial HVAC equipment.
- Valid State of Georgia license
The proposed salary is $24.03 per hour.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of basic HVAC systems, tools, and techniques.
- Knowledge of HVAC safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- Skilled in communication and teamwork
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Ability to use diagnostic and testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, pressure gauges).
- Ability to learn and take direction from senior staff.
