Overview

Quinnipiac University and the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences seeks an engaging, student-centered, and knowledgeable educator with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will primarily teach Human Anatomy and Physiology, with the possibility of contributing to introductory biology lecture and laboratory courses. While applicants from a broad range of biological disciplines will be considered, candidates with expertise relevant to Human Anatomy and Physiology are especially encouraged to apply. The Human Anatomy and Physiology sequence of undergraduate courses are typically taken by students in the allied health and nursing programs. Laboratory instruction utilizes a combination of anatomical models, mammalian organ dissection, plastinated human donors, online resources, and virtual human dissection tools. Faculty and students also benefit from Quinnipiac University’s recently opened, state-of-the-art science teaching and research laboratories within the Science, Innovation, Technology, and Exploration (SITE) building.

The start date is August 10, 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track teaching position, with appointment at the initial rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Instructor, depending on the highest degree earned. The position is renewable and offers opportunities for promotion within the teaching faculty track.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the position includes advising and mentoring students, as well as participating in service activities and committees that support and strengthen the program, department, college, and university community.

The Department of Biological Sciences includes 25 full-time faculty whose expertise spans disciplines from Molecular Genetics to Ecology. The department values collaborative teaching, student mentorship, and inclusive pedagogical practices. Faculty benefit from a collaborative, student-centered teaching environment and strong institutional support for pedagogical innovation.

This position requires a regular on-campus, in-person presence at Quinnipiac University’s Mount Carmel campus.

About The School/Program

The breadth of programs offered in the College of Arts and Sciences provides the traditional strengths of a liberal arts education, with a focus on cultivating the intellectual and practical skills that students need for their personal and professional lives. The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate majors in behavioral neuroscience, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, economics, English, game design and development, gerontology, history, independent majors, interdisciplinary studies, law in society, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish language and literature, and theater.

In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 31 undergraduate minors (including a minor in Italian), a MS in Molecular and Cell Biology and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3 1 and 4 1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3 3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3 1 BA in Theater/MBA, and 3 2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, Math and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily contribute to the lecture and laboratory components of the two-semester Human Anatomy and Physiology course series, with the possibility of other introductory biology or graduate courses as needed. The standard teaching load for teaching faculty is four courses (12 credits) per semester.
  • Hold regular office hours for students
  • Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally
  • Engage in departmental, college, university, and community service activities that support and advance the mission and values of the program, including attendance at department, college, and university meetings.

Education Requirements

  • A terminal degree in Biology (or closely related field) is required at the time of employment to be hired at an initial rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Candidates with a master’s degree in Biology (or closely related field) are eligible to be hired at the initial rank of Instructor.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology, including both lecture and laboratory components
  • Proven effectiveness in teaching undergraduate biology lecture and laboratory courses
  • Ability to contribute positively within a collaborative academic environment
  • Dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive learning experience for students
