Department Information

College of Design degrees focus on the intersection between technology and the ways people engage with the world. Our classes regularly dig into the science and engineering behind what is traditionally considered art. We emphasize human experiences, from products and soundscapes, to living in buildings and cities.

Our approach to design education is unique for a design school as a Georgia Tech college, we naturally associate technology and research with our work. Job Summary

The Financial Administrator is responsible for assisting with financial operations of a department or unit, interpreting, advising and disseminating financial policies and procedures; ensuring that unit accounting practices and procedures follow Institute guidelines and recommending improvements to unit procedures. This role assists in preparation of unit budgets and reports, and implementing accounting and office controls.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Within an academic or research unit, develop prepare financial data related to proposals, grants and contracts, general appropriations, endowments and other funds.

Job Duty 2 -

Identify training needs and deliver training to departmental faculty and staff as required.

Job Duty 3 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Job Duty 4 -

Generate data for use in budget amendments and other budget related reporting.

Job Duty 5 -

Manage the recording of financial transactions and generation of financial related reports on both scheduled and ad hoc basis.

Job Duty 6 -

Collect, reconcile and audit monthly unit expense transactions.

Job Duty 7 -

Review or approve payroll, time documents and personnel action forms.8

Job Duty 6 -

Coordinate unit financial related actions with Institute financial units.

Job Duty 9 -

Recommend & implement changes to unit financial or accounting procedure and process as appropriate.

Job Duty 10 -

Provide work related advice and direction to other unit financial or accounting personnel: may also supervise those personnel.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Four to six years of job related experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of and skill in applying accounting principles and practices within a university business environment is preferred: sponsored research budgeting, accounting, purchasing, closeout, and subaward process.
  • Workday and OneUSG, proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of and skill in applying accounting principles and practices within a university business environment is preferred.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports for unit leadership and Project Investigators, with a strong emphasis on sponsored grant reporting, to provide accurate data for decision-making while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulations.
  • Provide comprehensive post-award management for sponsored grants and other funding sources, including preparing and submitting budget amendments and subawards for sponsored grants.
  • Monitor and track expenditures against budgets to identify discrepancies and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Provide high-level support for salary distributions and redistributions in compliance with policy.
  • Exercise fiscal approval authority over Workday transactions at the school level.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Skills

This job requires advanced knowledge of and skill in applying general accounting principles and practices within a business environment. Additionally required are attention to detail and accuracy and use of office and specialized accounting related computer applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
