Position Summary

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a full-time EMS Instructor on our Fond du Lac Campus. This position is responsible for the multiple modality delivery of instruction and facilitation of student learning and providing ongoing development of curriculum, assessment, and learning strategies to meet college academic and workforce needs. In addition, this position will provide regular student support and contact, or refer to the appropriate department, to meet the learner’s classroom and career goals.

The successful candidate will have an Associate degree in a related field, or willing to obtain an Associate Degree from an accredited program (Progress toward an Associate Degree will be measured through the successful completion of a minimum of three (3) credits of coursework annually, beginning with the third year of employment.) and two years (4,000 hours) of paid work experience related to the program(s) being taught, including one year (2,000 hours) of related paid work experience that has been acquired within the past five years. In lieu of this one year of recent experience, two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the past five years may be considered. (Two years of post-secondary teaching experience means eight semesters of part-time teaching or four semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution.)Two years (4,000 hours) of paid work experience, within the past five years, related to the program(s) being taught

This position is part of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Grant, funded by the Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee through June 30 2027, with anticipation of being funded annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and facilitate learning in the assigned courses according to the College’s core values. Establish a professional and safe learning environment. Set the classroom tone by modeling appropriate workplace skills and behavior. Maintain a positive climate for learning by performing classroom management and being aware of, monitoring, and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Meet student learning needs by incorporating a variety of teaching methods and assessments.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, records, and documentation as required by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Submit grades within the expected timeframe.
  • Provide timely verbal and written feedback to the students to ensure continued growth and development.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of curriculum.
  • Assist with student recruitment and proactively promote the College programs and services offered.
  • Promote retention and student success through the utilization of referrals to College services and resources.
  • Engage in internal and external College meetings and activities.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with K-12, Department of Corrections (DOC), community, and industry partners beyond the classroom.
  • Actively maintain proficient knowledge and skills in emerging trends and current occupational practices. Complete annual professional development activities in areas of Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS) competencies. Complete all required training.
  • Assist with mentoring faculty.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies for the classroom and labs, as necessary to support the assigned program area and future trends in industry. Work with the supervisor to identify alternative funding sources, as needed.

Experience & Qualifications(in addition to those listed in the summary above):

  • Experience with pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Must be presently licensed or eligible for licensure by Wisconsin Department of Health Services as an EMT or higher, and must hold the following: o Current license/certificate as Emergency Services Instructor II issued by the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services-Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Section. o Current certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the Paramedic level. o Current Basic Life Support Instructor certification, or willing to obtain, with the American Heart Association.
  • Experience with the following job duties in pre-hospital emergency care: o Patient Assessment o Airway and Respiratory Management o Cardiac and Pulmonary Arrest Management o Oxygen and Oxygen Resuscitation Management o Management of Bleeding and Shock o Care and Treatment of Soft Tissue Injuries o Care and Treatment of Fractures and Dislocations o Care and Treatment of Spinal Injuries o Care and Treatment of Injuries to the Head, Face, Neck, and Spine o Care and Treatment of Injuries to the Chest, Abdomen, and Genitalia o Care and Treatment of Non-Traumatic Medical Emergencies [i.e., Diabetes, Epilepsy, cardiovascular accident (CVA), Acute Abdomen, Poisoning, etc.] o Emergency Childbirth o Management of Burns and Exposure to Hazardous Materials o Environmental Emergencies o Psychological Emergencies o Lifting and Moving Patients o Patient Extrication and Immobilization Techniques o Ambulance and Emergency Vehicle Operation o Administrative Functions of EMS o Body Substance Isolation o EMS Communications o Administration of inhaled medications
  • Upon hire, must maintain and/or obtain Higher Learning Commission, Faculty Quality Assurance System, and other agency requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Must satisfactorily complete health screen requirements, which may include criminal background check, drug test and/or verification of immunizations.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
  • This position may require teaching and/or travel to other MPTC (Moraine Park Technical College) campus locations, client/contract work sites, and/or Department of Corrections (DOC) institutions.

Hiring Range: $61,430-$71,259

Starting: Immediately

Workplace Flexibility: Open Campus

Hours/Schedule/Travel: 178-day contract in the academic year
