Job Summary

The EMS Instructional Staff’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program and workforce training This position must be competent to teach using a variety of effective methodologies, provide engagement, and support activities that encourage student learning. Courses may be taught on the LIT campus and off-campus sites. Additional duties include advising, student counseling, recruiting, mentoring, and committee involvement. This is a 12-month position with teaching assignments that may include day, evening, weekend, and summer classes on the LIT campus, at our Early College High School campuses, and other off-site locations. The EMS Program Reports to the Department Chair for Public Service and Safety. This is an exempt staff position

Duties/Responsibilities

Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline by teaching courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need

Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for student learning.

Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.

Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and practices to assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry, and higher education.

Ability to work well in a team environment.

Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a diverse professional community, and student population.

Effectively recruit and retain students.

Actively participate in department, college, and system meetings and/or committees.

Participate in scheduled institutional service activities.

Attend Teaching and Learning Center trainings to enhance teaching skills.

Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies.

Actively engage students in the learning process.

Maintain ethical and professional behavior.

Other duties as assignedMinimum/Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in EMS
  • Texas Department of State Health Services Licensed Paramedic
  • Experience working in higher education

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Two (2) years EMS Instruction

Three (3) years of field experience as a lead paramedic on a MICU ambulance

Certification(s) Required:

  • Texas Department of State Health Services Certified Paramedic,
  • Texas Department of State Health Services EMS Instructor,
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor,
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor

Possess basic skills in Microsoft Office applications.

Possess good organizational, time management, and planning skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Degree in EMS

Texas Department of State Health Services Licensed Paramedic

Experience working in higher education
