Department Information

Established in 1990, the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts is a pioneer of liberal arts education and research at the nexus of the technical and human sciences. The academic programs are internationally acclaimed as models for liberal arts education in a technological age. The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts comprises Georgia Tech's three Reserve Officers¿ Training Corps units (Air Force, Army, and Navy), six schools (Economics; History and Sociology; Literature, Media, and Communication; Modern Languages; Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy; and the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs), and two centers (Center for Advanced Communications Policy and Writing and Communication Program).

Job Summary

Manage and coordinate human resources services and programs within a college or organizational unit of major size in terms of the number of employees and organizational mix. Serve as primary contact within the unit on matters related to human resources issues. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: college deans or research executives and lab directors, administrators and college/unit employees; Institute-level and human resources management and staff. This position will advise and counsel: college deans and administrators, Institute level human resources management and staff. This position will supervise: human resources staff personnel.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Oversee and coordinate human resources-related activity within the college, including employment, employee relations, compensation/benefits, etc.

Job Duty 2 -

Confer with and advise administration, faculty, and staff regarding human resources policy, procedures, and practices.

Job Duty 3 -

Communicate new policies or changes in existing policy throughout the organization.

Job Duty 4 -

Serve as a representative to the Institute-level human resources organization, including serving on committees and providing policy input.

Job Duty 5 -

Coordinate the investigation and resolution of human resources-related issues.

Job Duty 6 -

Provide input to the college's or unit's strategic planning efforts with regard to human resources.

Job Duty 7 -

Organize the college or unit's human resources support function, assign and monitor staff activity.

Job Duty 8 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications

Able to obtain a national security clearance

Required Experience

Six to eight years of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial & Organizational Psychology, or a related field

Preferred Certifications

SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or other human resources certification.

Preferred Experience

Eight or more years of experience with the following:

Performing human resources generalist functions in a large or complex organization, including, but not limited to, employee relations, talent acquisition, talent development, performance management, organizational design, compensation analysis, and global HR.

Administering faculty affairs and reappointment, promotion, and tenure activities.

Advising and coaching senior leadership in a higher education setting.

Proficient knowledge of One USG Connect (PeopleSoft), the human capital management system for the University System of Georgia.

  • Experience with Georgia Tech's internal workflow systems, such as GT-TRACS (faculty appointment requests) and PROMOTE (reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes) or a similar electronic workflow system is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

This job requires a working knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, especially as to application within a multi-school college or a large organizationally complex unit. This includes skills in verbal and written communications, organization and supervision, customer service, and planning. Use of office and specialized computer applications and database systems is required.
