General Description
The Director of Financial Aid serves as the College's Senior Financial Aid Officer and provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and compliance management for all federal, state, institutional, scholarship, and veterans educational assistance programs at Wharton County Junior College. The Director is responsible for ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of financial aid operations while supporting the College's mission of student access, affordability, persistence, completion, and workforce and transfer success. This position oversees the administration of financial aid services, policies, procedures, systems, reporting, and internal controls in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
The Director collaborates with institutional leadership and campus stakeholders to support Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM), student success initiatives, and House Bill 8 performance outcomes through access to financial support resources, streamlined student services, and data-informed operational practices. The position provides leadership for the effective utilization of technology systems, including Ellucian Banner SaaS and related financial aid platforms, while supervising Financial Aid Office personnel and fostering a collaborative, student-centered, and service-oriented culture focused on compliance, accountability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Requirements
This position requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Business, Accounting, Finance, Student Affairs, Public Administration, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred. This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education financial aid administration, including direct experience with federal Title IV financial aid programs, regulatory compliance, and staff supervision. Experience working in a Texas public community college environment and experience with Ellucian Banner SaaS or similar enterprise resource planning systems are preferred. The position requires extensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, compliance requirements, financial aid processing systems, and best practices in student financial services administration. The position requires strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and policies. A criminal background check is required.
