Position Overview

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Teaching, research, department/school, college, and university service are expected. The position is a full-time, temporary, non-tenure-track visiting assistant professor position.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

The primary responsibility of this position is teaching a variety of courses for the School of Criminal Justice. The successful candidate should be able to teach a broad range of courses from introductory undergraduate to graduate level. Service and scholarly activities are standard expectations for this position. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Faculty must be willing to teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid, online) as needed and appropriate. Faculty members are expected to participate in a comprehensive statewide outreach initiative to the Oklahoma criminal justice community.

College/Department Overview

The School of Criminal Justice is housed within the College of Liberal Arts. The School of Criminal Justice has three undergraduate programs and two master’s programs which serve approximately 500 students. The School of Criminal Justice has 9 full-time faculty members. Experience Required

An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institutions in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Sociology is required. A doctorate in a related field will be considered (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). ABD candidates with a clear dissertation defense date will be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The school has partnerships with local criminal justice agencies, which provides faculty and students the opportunity to complete practical research on existing criminal justice problems. Therefore, practical experience in the criminal justice system and the demonstrated ability to participate in academic research are desirable.
