Job Description

The Career Navigator, under general supervision, will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the career-based learning and internship opportunities for the Alamo Bridges participants. Working through the Mays Center, the Career Navigator will also be responsible for implementation of career skill development opportunities, observation of internship students, development of workforce/career field placements, VR and school district liaison, internship instruction/supervision, and post-completion workforce monitoring. The Career Navigator will coordinate with the community partnership projects and work with the existing career and professional services provided by the Mays Center and ensure these services meet the individual needs of the Alamo Bridges participants. The Career Navigator will be responsible for professional development for program participants and serving as the primary point of contact for participants’ career/workforce success. In collaboration with the team, the Career Navigator will assist with identification, recruitment, and re/connection of the Alamo Bridges participants. This position reports directly to the Alamo Bridges Project Coordinator.

Position Hours: This position is 100% on-site at our San Antonio campus; remote or hybrid work is not available. This position typically works Monday - Friday; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. May work beyond normal office hours to include evenings and weekends.

This is a grant funded position. This is a grant-funded position that is based on the continuation of the grant (for up to five years)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and monitors the career-based learning and internship opportunities for the Alamo Bridges participants.
  • Implements career skill development training opportunities;
  • observes and guides internship students.
  • Develops workforce/career placements.
  • Serves as internship instructor.
  • Provides modifications/adaptations to improve tools for unique participant/program needs (e.g., support specific disability needs).
  • Serves as VR and school district liaison and post-completion workforce monitoring.
  • Coordinates with the Mays Center on employer and engagement and other relevant training to all Alamo Bridges participants.
  • Assists with identification, recruitment, and re/connection of the Alamo Bridges participants.
  • Develop procedures for specialized functions to enhance program delivery.
  • Collect and maintain a variety of program, research and evaluation data including academic/program records & reports.
  • Coordinate, develop and maintain outward facing program information and materials for dissemination (e.g., website, newsletter, marketing).
  • Support program events, meetings and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Experience in the field of vocational rehabilitation and/or special education with a focus on disabilities, transition, and/or disability support and/or career services.
  • Experience working with students representing the regional and state-wide communities.
  • Experience working with families, vocational rehabilitation agencies and/or school districts, and workforce/career community partners representing the regional and state-wide communities.
  • Instructional and supervision experience.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and organizing complex, multi-activity projects related to career skill development.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, employers, vocational rehabilitation/school district partners and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact with students, families, vocational rehabilitation agencies, school districts, and workforce/career community partners representing the regional and state-wide communities.
  • Ability to develop the capacity of instructors and staff to work successfully with students with varied experiences and backgrounds.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vocational rehabilitation personnel and administrators, employers, employees, community stakeholder groups, educators and school administrators, parents, civic associations, and the general public as necessitated by the work.
  • Knowledge of the design and development of curriculum to support Alamo Bridges activities.
  • Skill in utilizing computer software.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and records.
  • Develop visual aids and other instructional materials to meet specific training needs.
  • Ability to instruct and supervise program participants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Possess proven track record of excellence in career skills development.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to develop cooperative relationships among faculty, staff, administration, University leadership, vocational rehabilitation agencies and/or school districts, and workforce/career community partners.
