Job Description:
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a growing and vibrant research atmosphere with a newly appointed chairperson, 16 research-intense tenure-track faculty members including 3 recent hires, and plans for additional future faculty hires. Current strengths of the department that we seek to complement or expand include: metabolism (spatial-biology, metabolomics, metabolic flux analysis, and artificial intelligence), structural biochemistry (macromolecular structure using cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and NMR), and molecular biology (RNA structure/function, epigenetics, gene regulation, DNA repair, and replication).
UF offers world-class facilities for NMR/MRI (AMRIS center), structural biology (CSB), mass spectrometry (CASBR), epigenetics (CEG), cancer, neuroscience (McKnight Brain Institute), and computing that are readily accessible to researchers. In partnership with Nvidia, UF built HiPerGator, one of the largest supercomputing facilities sited at a university in the world with a particular emphasis on the use of AI in biomedical research. Notable achievements include the National Cancer Institute designation for the UF Health Cancer Center, UF surpassing $1.33 billion in research spending, and UF being named the top public university by the Wall Street Journal.
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is part of a larger Biomedical Sciences program within the College of Medicine that includes eight fundamental science departments. Educational activities of research faculty include mentoring graduate students and research fellows, and team-teaching at graduate/professional levels.
