Position Summary:

The Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Support Initiatives is an emerging academic leader who provides strategic and operational support to the Dean in advancing the mission, vision, and values of the School of Nursing. This role is designed for a faculty member with demonstrated leadership potential who will develop administrative acumen while contributing to initiatives that enhance faculty success, academic quality, and organizational effectiveness. The Associate Dean coordinates faculty credentialing and compliance activities, leads new faculty orientation and mentoring programs, supports academic assessment and reporting processes, and serves as a liaison for faculty and academic technology support. The position also includes teaching responsibilities to maintain engagement in the core mission of nursing education.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Nursing (PhD or DNP) or a related discipline.
• Current, unencumbered RN license (or eligibility for NC licensure).
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and academic service.
• Experience or clear potential in academic leadership, project management, or faculty development.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in faculty credentialing, compliance, or accreditation processes.
• Experience with assessment, data reporting, or academic program evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Familiarity with academic technology systems and learning management tools (e.g., Canvas, Watermark, etc.).

Key Responsibility:

Faculty Development and Support

Essential Tasks:

• Coordinate new faculty orientation and onboarding activities in collaboration with the Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and Dean.
• Develop and implement faculty mentoring and professional development programs that promote teaching excellence, scholarly productivity, and engagement.
• Provide guidance to faculty on policies, resources, and expectations in collaboration with Associate Deans, Assistant Dean for Budget and Operations, Department Chairs, and Dean.
• Serve as a resource and advocate for faculty success, fostering a positive and inclusive academic environment.

Academic Support Initiatives and Special Projects

Essential Tasks:

• Execute and coordinate special initiatives on behalf of the Dean, supporting innovation, academic excellence, and organizational improvement.
• Assist with academic policy implementation, strategic planning initiatives, and process improvement projects.
• Oversee or coordinate the activities of the Academic Technology Specialist to support instructional innovation and effective use of technology in teaching and learning.
  
  

Key Responsibility:

Faculty Credentialing, Compliance, and Assessment

Essential Tasks:

• Coordinate faculty credentialing and compliance processes to meet requirements of the NC Board of Nursing, University, and accrediting bodies.
• Partner with academic leadership to ensure timely and accurate reporting for accreditation, assessment, and institutional compliance.
• Maintain records and documentation related to faculty qualifications, continuing education, and performance review.

Teaching

Essential Tasks:

• Teach 6–9 credit hours per calendar year, typically one course per semester and one in summer, in the faculty member’s area of expertise.
• Demonstrate excellence in teaching, student engagement, and inclusive pedagogical practice.
• Serve as a role model for teaching innovation and integration of technology in nursing education.

• Represent the Dean’s Office on committees, task forces, and in designated meetings.
• Collaborate with Department Chairs, Associate Deans, and other administrators to promote alignment across programs.
