Job Summary

Recruit students and provide assistance and advice in relation to the admissions process. Visit schools or colleges to make presentations to groups and individuals.

Grant Funded Position

This is a grant funded position; therefore, the university will incur no salary obligation beyond funding derived from this source. This position will continue as long as adequate funds are available.

Based on the recent Proclamation: Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers (H-1B), VSU will not be sponsoring any new H-1B visa petitions until further notice.

Responsibilities

Department Summary

The Valdosta State University High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is a federally funded grant program that supports eligible adult learners, particularly those from migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds, in earning their high school equivalency credential and transitioning to postsecondary education, training, or employment. The program provides academic instruction, advising, and support services designed to promote persistence, completion, and successful outcomes, while maintaining compliance with federal guidelines through ongoing data collection, reporting, and program evaluation.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Manage assigned territory - 30%

Manage an assigned recruitment territory.

Visit schools and colleges - 30%

Visit schools and colleges, speak to groups and individual students, and meet with school officials to develop partnerships between the university and other institutions.

Provide information to families and students - 15%

Provide information to students and families regarding educational opportunities and options, admission and other requirements, policies and procedures, transfer of credit, and financial assistance, as appropriate.

Conduct campus tours - 15%

Conduct campus tours and represents the Admissions Department during Orientation.

Marketing materials - 10%

Distribute a range of resource and promotional materials designed for the recruitment and retention of targeted groups.

Supervisor Expectations

  • Proactively identify and target communities, employers, and partner organizations to connect with eligible participants from migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds.
  • Consistently recruit and enroll 50-60 eligible participants annually, using effective outreach strategies and ongoing follow-up.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community partners, businesses, schools, and agencies to support sustained recruitment efforts.
  • Build rapport quickly with prospective students and families, communicating effectively in English and/or Spanish to address concerns and encourage participation.
  • Accurately complete and verify all eligibility documentation and intake applications in accordance with federal program requirements.
  • Track and document outreach activities, including locations visited, events attended, number of participants engaged, and prospective student contacts.
  • Maintain organized, complete, and audit-ready records to ensure compliance with annual federal reviews.
  • Work independently, manage a flexible schedule (including travel, evenings, and weekends), and take ownership of recruitment outcomes and continuous improvement of outreach efforts.

Required Qualifications

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of related work experience.

Proposed Salary

$20.35/hr ($42,324/annual)
