Description
The Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for an Adjunct Instructor position in the Department of Comparative Literature, Languages, and Linguistics at Hofstra University. The Department of Comparative Literature, Languages, and Linguistics welcomes applications in Modern Hebrew Language.
Characteristic duties and responsibilities of the position outlined in bullet format (if possible).
The position will involve
- Planning Modern Hebrew language courses from beginner through advanced levels
- Teaching Modern Hebrew language courses from beginner through advanced levels
- Evaluating students in Modern Hebrew language courses from beginner through advanced levels
- Performing language level placement assessments in Modern Hebrew language
- Demonstrated near-native or native language ability in Modern Hebrew
- A minimum of a Master’s degree (M.A.) in a relevant field such as language pedagogy (preferably in Modern Hebrew language and literature), second language acquisition, or linguistics
- Prior experience teaching Modern Hebrew language courses at the college/university level
- Experience in contemporary second language teaching methodologies, instructional technologies, heritage/non-heritage teaching, and curriculum development are highly preferred
- Ability to create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment
- Proof of ongoing professional development
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field as indicated above is strongly preferred
- 6 semesters within the past 5 years teaching college/university level, credit-bearing Modern Hebrew language courses
