This is an exciting opportunity for a finance leader who enjoys operating at both the strategic and tactical levels, partnering closely with executive leadership, and driving financial performance across a dynamic, multi-department organization.

The Director of Finance will oversee the organization's financial operations, accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls. Beyond traditional accounting responsibilities, this individual will serve as a trusted business partner to operational leaders, helping translate financial data into meaningful insights that support informed decision-making and long-term organizational success.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting and financial management, paired with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance systems, and create operational efficiencies.

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, developing a small team, and making a meaningful impact across an organization.

Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic financial partner to executive leadership and ownership, providing financial insight, analysis, and recommendations to support business performance and long-term planning.
  • Oversee the organization's overall financial health, ensuring accurate reporting, sound financial controls, and effective management of financial resources.
  • Partner closely with operational and departmental leaders to evaluate financial performance, identify trends, and support business decisions.
  • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for individuals with varying levels of financial expertise.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, presenting financial results, highlighting opportunities and risks, and helping drive organizational strategy.
  • Balance high-level financial planning with hands-on involvement in day-to-day accounting and operational activities.

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reporting.
  • Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial data across departments and systems.
  • Develop and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Monitor financial performance, investigate variances, and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and reporting capabilities.
  • Coordinate with external accounting partners on tax, audit, and compliance-related matters.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, ongoing forecasting, and financial planning initiatives in partnership with executive and departmental leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with department leaders to develop budgets, monitor performance, and evaluate financial results.
  • Provide guidance and education to operational leaders, helping strengthen their understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial accountability.
  • Prepare financial models, variance analyses, and management reports to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Analyze labor expenses, operating costs, revenue trends, and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improved profitability and efficiency.
  • Support capital expenditure planning and evaluate the financial impact of proposed investments and business initiatives.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Oversee cash management, banking relationships, liquidity planning, and treasury-related activities.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts to support both immediate operational needs and longer-term financial planning.
  • Monitor the organization's cash position and provide leadership with regular reporting, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Evaluate and improve payment processes, including opportunities for automation and enhanced efficiency.
  • Support financial planning related to capital investments, operating requirements, and other organizational priorities.

Systems, Process Improvement & Operational Oversight

  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems, accounting processes, and reporting practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve data integration across accounting, payroll, and operational systems.
  • Drive improvements in general ledger mapping, financial reporting, and internal controls while identifying opportunities for automation and system optimization.
  • Oversee purchasing, vendor management, expense controls, and related financial operations.
  • Partner with department leaders to monitor spending, evaluate costs, and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure financial compliance across accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll, and related functions.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting and purchasing team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and support while ensuring appropriate coverage, cross-training, and consistency in financial processes.
  • Build strong relationships across departments and serve as an approachable financial resource to operational leadership.
  • Promote a culture of financial accountability, proactive problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • CPA or MBA, preferred.
  • 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial operations, including prior experience as a Controller, Director of Finance, Senior Finance Manager, or similar financial leadership capacity preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting foundation with demonstrated experience managing general ledger activities, financial statements, reconciliations, and internal controls.

  • Demonstrated success identifying and implementing process improvements, particularly related to financial systems, reporting, automation, and workflow efficiencies.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting and financial reporting software; experience with system implementations, integrations, or optimization initiatives highly valued.
  • Experience leading or mentoring accounting professionals and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial information and provide actionable guidance to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
