Insero Talent Solutions is recruiting a Controller for a growing, privately held manufacturing organization in Rochester, NY. This is a newly created position resulting from the continued growth and evolution of the organization. Reporting directly to the President, the Controller will serve as a key member of the leadership team and oversee the company’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations while also supporting core Human Resources functions.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys working closely with the business, improving processes, and wearing multiple hats. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable managing the details of the accounting function and partnering with leadership on broader financial, operational, and people-related matters.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Finance

• Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and account reconciliations.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and other financial analyses to support business decision-making.
• Maintain appropriate internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
• Manage cash flow and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Monitor operating results and identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas for improved financial performance.
• Partner closely with the President to provide financial insight and support strategic and operational decision-making.
• Coordinate with external accounting partners on tax filings, year-end reporting, audits/reviews, and other accounting and compliance matters.
• Maintain relationships with banking, insurance, benefits, and other external business partners as appropriate.
• Evaluate existing accounting processes and systems and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, controls, and scalability as the organization continues to grow.

Human Resources & Payroll

• Serve as an internal resource for employees and leadership regarding day-to-day HR matters and employee relations.
• Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding, including new hire documentation, system setup, benefits enrollment, and related administrative requirements.
• Manage and/or oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable requirements.
• Maintain accurate employee records and personnel documentation.
• Support benefits administration and serve as a liaison with benefits providers and other external HR partners.
• Assist leadership with employee relations matters, performance management, policies, and other workplace issues as they arise.
• Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.
• Help develop and formalize HR processes, policies, and procedures that support the organization as it continues to grow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Progressive accounting and financial management experience, ideally within a privately held manufacturing, industrial, or similarly hands-on operating environment.
• Strong understanding of general accounting principles, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Experience overseeing or working closely with payroll and Human Resources functions strongly preferred.
• Experience partnering with external accounting, tax, benefits, and other professional service providers.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial information into practical business insight.
• Demonstrated ability to improve processes, establish structure, and build scalable practices within a growing organization.
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment and moving between strategic priorities and day-to-day responsibilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• High degree of discretion, integrity, and sound judgment when handling confidential financial and employee information.
