This is an exciting opportunity for an architectural professional who enjoys combining creativity, technical expertise, and hands-on project coordination to deliver functional, high-quality spaces. The position offers involvement throughout the architectural design process, from preliminary concepts and schematic design through construction documentation and coordination with internal and external project stakeholders.

The Project Manager will play an important role in translating design concepts into practical, code-compliant solutions, with a particular focus on commercial spaces, retail building shells, and tenant build-outs. The Project Manager will collaborate with architectural, engineering, and construction teams to ensure projects are thoughtfully designed, technically accurate, and aligned with applicable building requirements.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, resourceful architectural professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can independently manage competing priorities, and brings a solutions-oriented approach to design challenges.

Responsibilities
Architectural Design & Project Execution

  • Develop preliminary architectural concepts, schematic designs, design development drawings, and comprehensive construction documents for commercial and institutional projects.
  • Support architectural projects throughout multiple phases of design, ensuring continuity between initial concepts, technical documentation, and construction requirements.
  • Prepare architectural plans for retail building shells, tenant build-outs, and other commercial spaces.
  • Conduct field visits and verify existing site conditions to develop accurate as-built documentation and drawings.
  • Translate project requirements and design objectives into practical architectural solutions that balance functionality, aesthetics, and constructability.
  • Maintain accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail across architectural drawings and project deliverables.

Project Coordination & Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal and external architectural, engineering, and construction teams throughout the design and documentation process.
  • Review architectural plans, tenant space plans, shop drawings, and other submitted documentation for consistency with project requirements.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders to clarify design requirements, resolve technical questions, and support project progression.
  • Identify potential design conflicts or constructability concerns and collaborate with the appropriate teams to develop effective solutions.
  • Support the coordination of architectural deliverables to maintain project momentum and meet established deadlines.

Code Compliance & Technical Review

  • Research, interpret, and apply applicable municipal building codes, zoning requirements, and relevant construction standards.
  • Review architectural designs and construction documents to ensure alignment with applicable safety and code requirements.
  • Evaluate technical design requirements and recommend alternative construction methods or design solutions when appropriate.
  • Coordinate necessary design adjustments to address regulatory requirements, field conditions, and project-specific challenges.

Cost Estimating, Value Engineering & Problem-Solving

  • Prepare architectural drawings, specifications, and supporting information necessary for preliminary construction cost estimates.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and recommend value engineering solutions that balance cost considerations, design intent, and code compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project efficiency, functionality, and constructability without compromising quality.
  • Provide practical, technically sound recommendations to resolve architectural and construction-related challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture required.
  • 4 years of architectural experience involving commercial projects.
  • Experience preparing schematic designs, design development drawings, and construction documentation.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction, retail building shells, and tenant improvement or build-out projects.
  • Strong understanding of architectural design principles, construction methods, and applicable building codes.
  • Experience reviewing architectural plans, shop drawings, and related technical documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and proactively resolve design and technical challenges.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
