What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Assistant position at Inova McLean Surgery Center?
Inova McLean Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Materials Assistant to join provide assistance to the Materials Manager to ensure safe and efficient daily operations of the ambulatory surgery center.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Responsibilities include
- Assist Materials Manager with unpacking, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment.
- Assists with the verification of daily delivery of items with packing slips and purchase orders, and notes back-orders. Notify the Materials Manager of discrepancies.
- Researches and resolves problems with damaged, missing, or incorrect merchandise.
- Assists with computer input of used items from physician preference cards for prior days’ procedures.
- Assist with maintaining par levels and restocking when needed
- On an as needed basis, prepare supply re-order lists.
- Create purchase orders for reordering of supplies and send to appropriate vendor for processing.
- Assists Materials Manager with monthly physical inventory counts as directed by the Administrator.
- Keep track of borrowed items from other facilities
- Maintain the equipment preventive maintenance database.
- Set up repairs with vendor for damaged instruments or equipment and secure a loner.
- Assist in reviewing the surgical schedule and contacting reps for implants and equipment in advance for cases.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and organization related information.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one (1) year previous work experience in an outpatient surgery setting or acute hospital recovery room or operating room
- Registered Nurse, Certified OR Technician, or experience in Materials Management in a surgery center or hospital setting.
- Basic computer skills, ability to learn new inventory system software
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel
- Reads, writes, speaks and comprehends the English language
- Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling and pushing of carts, equipment, etc. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
- Able to lift/carry up to approximately 15 pounds.
- Could possibly come in contact with contaminated supplies/instrumentation/equipment.
- Must be able to perceive objects accurately as to size, temperature, and texture.
- Maybe exposed to hazardous chemicals.
- Must be able to adapt to cool and noisy working conditions.
